A lot of consumers head to Trader Joe’s because the food is often organic and carefully manufactured. Yet if you have purchased peanut butter at this grocery store recently, you should probably take it right back where it came from. The Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced that the Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter that is sold at the store may contain salmonella bacteria. 29 people have reported contracting salmonella after eating the peanut butter. The reports have come from 18 different states. According to The Huffington Post, agencies are investigating to make sure that no other items sold at the store are contaminated with the bacteria.
About 75 percent of all the salmonella victims were under the age of 18. This may be because the children have weaker immune systems, or because the children were more prone to consume peanut butter. No deaths have been reported in connection with the salmonella outbreaks, but many of the ill individuals have been hospitalized. This will inevitably bring on high-expense medical bills as a result of eating the peanut butter. Those who work may have to suffer an economic loss because of their lost wages. The company has already removed the peanut butter from store shelves.
So far, newspapers have been able to determine that one case of salmonella was in Rhode Island, one was in North Carolina, and at least three occurred in Massachusetts. The incidents recorded so far all occurred between June 11th and September 2nd. Salmonella is normally a 12 to 72 hour infection that can come with diarrhea, fever, and severe abdominal cramps. It is most dangerous when it is detected in children, the elderly, or others with weak immune systems.
